Art exhibition of Frederiki D. Pappas
''Portraits of historic American Philhellenes''
Congress Hall
Washington D.C., May 7, 1996

In the preparation of the exhibit of 1996, it was my great honor to meet discuss the history of American Philhellenism with Representative Newt Gingrich, the Speaker of the House. Speaker Gingrich's enthusiasm and encouragement for this projec was an unexpected source of moral support and mirrored the spirit of America's 19th century Philhellenic leaders. His Heartfelt view concerning the impact of Hellenism on the Amreican Republic stand as evidence that the sprirtual ties betwwn our two countries are inseparable and alive today in the U. S. Congress. I wish to sincerely thank Mr. Gingrich for the inspriation he provided me and also to thank him fo his role in promoting the high ideals of democracy.
